ABOUT US

Who we are

The Meru County Microfinance Corporation was established under the Meru County Microfinance Corporation Act, 2014 with the mandate of providing microfinance services to Small and Medium enterprises. We commenced operation on the 15th of January 2016 by opening two branches in Meru and Maua with the Head Office located in Meru Town.

 

One of the core mandates of Meru County Microfinance Corporation was to uplift and impact the livelihoods of society. The Corporation was established to transform the social-economic fortunes by reducing the gaps of financial and information access within Meru County.

 

The Corporation offers financial literacy to organized groups on how to run their businesses efficiently and with proper record keeping. This has ensured that poverty levels have been reduced by empowering the women and youth to start their own businesses or grow their existing businesses.

Enactment and Gazettement

Launched and Opened 2 Branches

We Launched and Opened our first 2 Branches at Meru Township & Maua Town.

2018
Established 2 Branches

The Corporation expanded further by opening 2 branches at Laare & Muriri

2019
Launched 2 Branches

We opened 2 more branches at Timau & Nkubu

Opened the 7th Branch

We opened our New branch at Mikinduri

Since inception, the corporation has recruited over 5000 members and trained and funded over 350 Groups. The corporation has been thriving perfectly well for the last 8 years and is economically empowering many low-income women, youth, and SMEs by training them on basic business management skills.

The corporation has developed a practice that ensures all our clients, both individual and groups undergo finance and business-related trainings before there are funded. The Corporation has partnered with several County Departments in extending finance and business-related trainings to various groups and essential community leaders in the County through Empowerment Programs for our people.

The highest percentage of our clients is focused on entrepreneurial and investments mindsets to inspire our beneficiaries to become visionaries and business leaders.

 

Guided by the Corporation’s Policy, the staff are trained with a mindset of “meet the people”. The staff work on a program that enables them to journey with the clients/members from the very moment of mobilization and identification then initiation, training and even after funding the Business Development Officers continue with visits to clients from time to time.

The Corporation’s philosophy: ‘Growing with You’ is established on a lasting client’s relationship where there is a continued interaction with the clients as they continue to advance along the path of growth.

 

The Corporation has partnered with various Governmental and Non- Governmental agencies both at the County and National level to empower women, youths, SMEs, and the disadvantaged groups in the County. Some of these agencies and entities include County Departments of Education, Technology, Gender and Social Development, Department of Youth & Sports, Department of Trade, Tourism and Co-operatives, Micro-Energy Credits, (MEC), Farm International Concerns, (FIC) and National Potatoes Council of Kenya, (NPCK).

As a Corporation, we are always inspired by our motto ‘Growing with You’ and thus, we keep growing to continue expanding and embracing financial ideas that transforms the livelihood of the people of Meru.
